Week 4.1

Happy new year, 8th graders and every one at Ac2E Middle School!  I hope that you had a great break and are ready to continue mastering objectives in 2017!  I am excited to reach our goals as we continue to push towards STAAR.  Here is the schedule for the week:

                   THE END IS HERE!

With the end of the year coming closer then we think, just one more week till SUMMER TIME!
Two months of no school and having fun, trips and family time. We have been together for a whole school year and even if we want to leave, we really don't want to.

Just see how we bonded with each other and all the fun we had. We are only 38 students and 3 of the greatest teachers ever! :)

At the top of this page is a slide show of all the great times and projects we have done together.
"Pictures taken in the begin of the year, can be used at the end of the year," said Mrs.Chapa, our math teacher.

STRING ART

Another project we did was string art using parts of a circle. This project was one of the most fun projects we have done in math. After our lesson in parts of a circle, Mrs.Chapa, our fantastic math teacher bought us boards and we used sandpaper to smooth it out. Next we painted the board black as shown above, then we carefully marked where 294 nails would go using the radii and the circumference. After hammering the nails in place, we used the string in each if the seven areas of the circle and as seen by the example above, they all turned out beautiful.    

                  Red Ribbon Week

 THURSDAY: Today was all about "SOCK IT TO DRUGS" which meant all students were allowed to wear mismatched socks. This day was just to show the students that it is okay to be different,and its okay to live a drug-free life!!!!

FRIDAY: Tomorrow all students will be allowed to wear team jerseys or school spirit shirts."TEAM UP AGAINST DRUGS" this shows that all kids and adults can work together to support their schools.

HESTEC 2012

We had a great time at HESTEC yesterday!  We learned about the World Birding Center (and that it has a gift shop there, not at HESTEC!!!)  If you want to see more of the exhibits, Saturday is community day.

The Target game

This is another great game, but you need a partner to play it.  The Target Game is fun, but make sure that you have a partner and that you follow the rules!

Don't Forget!!!

This is a reminder that we are going to be going to HESTEC this week!  I can't wait to go and see the exhibits!!  Are you interested in the STEM fields for a career?  STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  These are the jobs of the future!

This is a cool comparing fractions game!

Remember when we compared fractions mentally using 0, 1/2, and 1 whole as benchmarks?  Here is a game where you can practice that!  It is called Tug Team Fractions and you can play against a friend on the internet or against the computer!

I love this video - we reinforced rewriting improper fractions into mixed numbers and saw how to make a fraction into a decimal.

My Number Tissue Box Projects

Wow - what great projects that I have received so far!  I think that it is great that the students chose 3 different numbers to show the factors, multiples, facts, and prime factorization of their special number.

Leave me a comment if you need the rubric again for your project.  Remember, you get 50 points extra credit if you turn in the project this week and 25 points next week.  If you turn in the project on time, October 1st, then you will not receive any extra credit.  I can't wait to see you all's creativity!

Parts of the Earth

These are so cool! 

The product game!

Last week, we practiced finding factors and multiples.  If you want to play the product game on the computer, you can google "the product game" or play against a parent here.

This upcoming week, we are going to apply what we have learned to science by studying Circadian rhythms.  We are also going to apply multiples to ferris wheels and use products to create groupings on a picnic.  Finally, we are going to use factor strings to find prime factorization and you will be able to explain what the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic is!

Welcome To A New School Year

My name is Mrs. Aide Pena and I will be your Laguage Arts and Social Studies teacher.  I have lots of ideas in the making for you all.  I know we are going to have a great learning experience together.

Getting Prepared

Wow, we are busy working on getting ready for the upcoming school year.  Ms. Garcia, Mrs. Pena, and myself, Mrs. Chapa, are already getting the classrooms in order to maximize student learning.  We are so excited to meet you and to get you started on meeting your potential in 6th grade.
